Our Northland Community

Duluth, a city with a population of 86,697 and an urban area population of 120,378, is located in northern Minnesota, at the head of Lake Superior. The Duluth area was originally settled by the Ojibwa and Sioux tribes. It was named for Daniel Greysolon, sieur du Lhut, who came in 1679 to set up fur trade routes.   It is a major international shipping port, listed in the top 20 ports in the United States and is North America's furthest inland seaport.  Ships  arrive from all over the world. It is home to the famous Aerial Lift Bridge, which has over 900 ships pass under it each year.  Duluth has 28 unique neighborhoods that are filled with 8 miles of the Duluth Lakewalk, 300 miles of trails, 160 parks, 3 skiing/snowboarding slopes, and numerous historic sites. Duluth is home to numerous art centers, museums and theaters. It hosts yearly events and festivals, including Grandma's Marathon, Bentleyville Tour of Lights, Homegrown Music Festival and Bayfront Blues Festival. Duluth is within 90 miles of four of Minnesota's most popular state parks: Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls, Jay Cooke and Tettegouche and Wisconsin's Pattison Park and Amnicon Falls state parks. According to the VisitDuluth webpage  "Duluth is designated one of just six Gold-Level Ride Centers by The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). (It was) named “Best City Ever” by Outside Magazine and named one of 10 Great Cities in the United States for Outdoor Adventure by Washington Post". Duluth has an average household income of $54,000. The average price of a home in Duluth is $265,000.
